This Red Leaf Lettuce Smoothie is mild with a lovely delicate taste. The bananas and mango give it a good thumbs up. I have been taking smoothies to one of my sons who hasn’t been feeling well and he loves them.

A good way to get started on healthy green smoothies is to use greens that are not harsh, strong or bitter such as this mild red leaf lettuce. Or you could use iceberg, green leaf lettuce, or bibb or butter lettuce.

Save the stronger and bitter greens for when your palate is more accustomed to the taste of greens.

The rich purple otherwise known as red at the tips of these lettuce leaves tell you it is a high nutrient food. Color. Color. Color. Lettuce in general is low in calories, and fat and cholesterol free, as well.

Always aim to add more greens in your daily food repertoire. Greens mean goodness for your body.

My friend, Maria, has a veritable fruit tree grove in her small backyard. These fruit trees: mango, avocado, starfruit and several others, she grew from cuttings, mind you. She serves us mango for dessert many times when we are at her house for dinner. I am always amazed and how good and refreshing slices of sweet mango are. Yum!

Health Notes:

1. Red Leaf Lettuce is very rich in Vitamins A which is great for vision.

2. It is also rich in Vitamin K which maintains good bone health.

3. High in antioxidants which fight free radicals.

4. Look for color. Color = nutrients.

5. Bananas are loaded with potassium.

6. And mangoes, well, mangoes are a real superfruit. They are alkalizing to the body and among many other things, are immune-enhancing and you can even use it as a body scrub.
