Chocolate Chip Scones, another variation on scones, fill that ubiquitous chocolate need so many of us to have.

By the way, in case you’re wondering whether you should make your scones round or pie-shaped, it doesn’t really matter. Any shape will do.

Chocolate Chip Scones

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sprouted wheat flour
  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegan butter
  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 3 tablespoons vegan sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Use a whisk to remove any lumps. Add the vegan butter and mix well with a large fork, a pastry mixer or just two clean hands.
  • Add the chocolate chips, walnuts, applesauce, vanilla extract, almond milk, vegan sour cream, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix just until well combined. Mound scoops of dough with a large spoon onto parchment lined cookie sheet.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until done.
