The banana in Swiss Chard Nectarine Smoothie cuts the tart of the chard and gives it just the right amount of sweetness.
I put two small glasses on the counter with straws in them and when Kennedy and Kerigan, my granddaughters, came over, they chug-a-lugged! They were happy with the treat and I was glad they were getting good nutrition.
My mother always had swiss chard on the table as I was growing up. Did I ever eat it? Not on your life. Wouldn’t even taste it. Little did I know then how much nutrition was in it and little did I know that when I became an adult, it would become one of my go-to vegetables.
The ancient Greeks wrote about Swiss Chard being one of the most health-promoting vegetables. The Ancient Romans knew this too. Steaming Swiss Chard in just a bit of water with a small amount of salt for 3 minutes gives you a very satisfying cooked green for lunch or a side for dinner.
Low in calories, one cup of this green contains only 35 calories.
